We found that playing maths games does in fact improve maths scores for the most part.
Comparing our average scores over the trial, we can see that the control group’s average score remained pretty static in addition and decreased in subtraction.
The test group average score, however, rose in both addition and subtraction. By looking at this we can conclude that playing 20 minutes of maths games a day will improve maths test scores.
Of course, this was not true of all participants. Some pupils in the test group scores did not improve while some score of the control group did. Therefore, we can say, that maths games alone do not improve maths test scores.
Also, we only looked at simple addition and subtraction recall skills and we do not know if this outcome would transfer to all areas of mathematic.
But if you want to improve your number facts recall and ability, playing maths games will help you develop your skills and memory.
And everybody had fun taking part in our randomised trial!
